Lighting Fixtures and Controls
Lighting represents a large portion of electrical consumption for commercial and industrial buildings. Pepco’s lighting and controls incentives provide benefits you see right away, such as: energy savings, improved lighting quality, and enhanced productivity, as well as experiencing the long term benefit of having longer-lasting lamps that will reduce your maintenance expense. Whether you are upgrading existing fixtures or looking at new emerging lighting technologies, most likely there is a Pepco lighting incentive that will reward you for making the right decision
Pepco’s lighting incentives are designed to encourage the replacement of less efficient incandescent, high-intensity discharge (HID) and previous generation fluorescent technologies with the latest in high performance T8 and T5 lamps and ballasts, compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) and light emitting diode (LED) technologies. Standard incentives are available for new fixture, relamp and reballast and many fixture retrofit scenarios using these highly efficient lamps and ballasts in your existing building, and Alternative incentives may be available for non-Standard lighting technologies.
T12 Lighting Phase Out
– The U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Program develops energy conservation standards for consumer products and commercial equipment, and establishes rules for fluorescent and incandescent lamps including T12s. DOE’s lighting ruling phases out the manufacturing of T12 lamps starting in July 2012. If you would like to learn more about the new standards and the current incentives available through the C&I Energy Savings Program, check out T12 Lighting Phase Out
can further increase your energy savings, by automatically turning fixtures on and off, or by simply dimming the light output when natural light sources are available.
Program incentives are available in two categories for existing buildings:
- Standard: Standard measure incentives are available when using Program pre-approved fixtures, lamps, ballasts and components to replace and upgrade existing fixtures. This list includes new fixtures, relamping and reballasting, or delamping and retrofitting that can improve lighting quality or save energy by using T8, T5, compact fluorescent and LED technologies. In addition, incentives are available for occupancy sensors and daylight controls with continuous or step-dimming capability.
- Alternative: Alternative measure incentives are designed for qualified lighting projects that are not on the Standard measures list. Whether it is new lamp technology or simply a lighting fixture type not offered in one of the Standard categories, the Alternative measure approach can provide an incentive if it meets program qualifications. The proposed system must demonstrate energy savings, meet the Program’s quality and efficiency standards, and pass certain program-specified cost-effectiveness criteria. Our Program Office will review the existing and proposed fixtures, operating schedules, material and labor replacement costs, fixture cut sheets and testing reports to determine if an incentive is available.
The program is not accepting applications at this time. Review the most current Program Update
